That's what I want when I read a book or see a movie. I want to be swept away. I don't care how unrealistic the plot, if you can suck me into your world, then I'm your slave for life.
I saw the movie "Journey to the Center of the Earth" recently and I loved it. The 3-D effects made it even more fun to watch. I love action adventure movies. Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Pirates of the Caribbean...those are the types of movies I don't mind spending my money on. The dark theater, a big ol’ bucket of popcorn and that huge screen and surround sound. I get completely swept up every single time and it's great.
Same with books. I love it when an author can take me into her world and make me forget everything. No matter where I'm at, no matter what's troubling me, I can pick up that book and sink myself into the pages and become a part of it. Like in Christine Feehan's Ghostwalker series or Shannon McKenna's McCloud series, I totally leave my cares behind and suddenly I become the heroine, dodging bullets and kissing dangerous men.
I've been a loner most of my life. I grew up with brothers, which means I may as well have been an only child. I spent a lot of time alone. Add a shy personality to that scenario and you have a dreamer. Someone who uses books or movies as a means of escape. My friends were the characters on the screen and between the covers of books. Is it any wonder that I became a writer?
What author sucks you into his/her world each time you pick up another of their books? Do you find yourself almost sad when you finish it, knowing you'll have to wait 6 months, maybe a year before you can become a kickass heroine with a psychopath on her tail?

Hey Anne,I'm glad you had fun on your vacation & thanks for sharing the pics. they we're great. Well the authors that always catches me up in her books & makes me feel as if I'm there, is Sherrilyn Kenyon & Bertrice Small& her Pleasures series.
Thanks,Cindy
I finished Into the Fire last night, and couldn't believe it when I looked up and 2 1/2 hours had passed! Boy, was I sucked in - I can't WAIT for her next one!
Hi Anne. I too love to feel a part of the world that the author creates when I read a book. I've just finished "Personal Shopper" by Carmen Reid. It contained all the right ingredients to indulge my passion for shopping, whilst also bringing me a sweet and touching romance. Perfect.
Cry No More by Linda Howard... Birthright by Nora Roberts... The Wrong Hostage by Elizabeth Lowell... just the recent reads.
Hi Cindy! Glad you liked the vacation pics. We had so much fun. Sadly it had to end. Back to the grind. LOL Okay, truth time. I've never read Beatrice Small. Do you think I'd like her books? If so, which would you recommend I try first?
Hi MaryF, I've totally done that too. Back when the kids were small I used to stay up all night reading. LOL Hey, who wrote that book you couldn't put down? I want to check it out myself!
Hi Megan! Thanks for stopping by! Ah, shopping, my other favorite thing to do! :)
Hey Anny! I love Linda Howard, but I haven't read "Cry No More" yet. Is there a lot of romance in it? I like a lot of romance. :-D
Hey Anne! Lara Adrian and Sherrilyn Kenyon always sweep me away into their world. The last Adrian book I read in one day.
Oh Anne, you don't know what you've been missing,Bertrice Small's Pleasure series is awesome.
Read this one first,I believe you will love it.
Private Pleasures
Nora Buckley's worst nightmare has just come true. After years of being a devoted, dutiful housewife, she's found out her husband is leaving her for a younger woman. Her only comfort comes from her friends--the women of Ansley Court, who meet every Monday morning for coffee and gossip. Seeing Nora's desperation, her friends decide it's time to let her in on their delicious and dirty little secret. It's called The Channel . . . and it lets every woman unleash passions beyond her wildest dreams. Suddenly Nora is living out her most intimate and sensuous fantasies--and before long, she realizes she can have everything she ever wanted . . .
Thanks,Cindy
Oh yum, Cindy. That blurb looks really good. I see an amazon purchase in my very near future. :)
Ohhh, I love Cry No More by Linda Howard. The book had me BAWLING one minute and involved in the action and romance in the next. I also love her DREAM MAN. I've re-read this one many times and it's always chilling. Many "goosebump" moments in that one.
Sherrilyn Kenyon and Ward also do it for me, though lately their work hasn't been as 'involving'.
Hi Anne! Yes, I'm totally with you. I want to be swept away too be it a book or film. A new author I've really been enjoying is Molly Zenk. She writes historicals. One had Byron and the other Keats. Being a sucker for the Regency genre and the Romantic poets I just loved them. She sucked me right into their stories.
I'm the oldest of five but several years older - so I was always a loner too. I needed the quiet. LOL!
Anne, sorry - Suzanne Brockmann wrote Into the Fire.
I'm tempted to read Cry No More, but the subject matter makes me wary - some things I just don't know if I can read about.
Mary, I confess I had some trouble with the subject matter of Cry No More. It's a tough one and I'll admit I sobbed through parts of this. In the end it's a story of survival and strength and being pro-active when others tell you you shouldn't be. It was a beautifully crafted story but disturbing on a number of levels. That's just my two cents but still an amazing book and one of her best.
I will put Cry No More on my wishlist, and wait for a bit, I think....
Kim Harrison's work always draws me in. She's one of the few authors that writes first person whose books I really love.
The other series that I can't put down is Jean M. Auel's Earth's Children books. Those ones really sweep me back in time. I'm really sad when I finish her books because it is years before the next one comes out.

Thanks, MaryF. I don't think I've read any of her books. Maybe one, an older one. If it's the same author I DID like her writing style.
Regina--I loved loved Dream Man. I was over the moon when I had the chance to meet Linda Howard some years ago. Even got my picture with her. She's a terrific author. Thanks for the info about Cry No More too. I think I'll add it to my TBB list. :)
Oh, Anne, that's too funny. I have a pic with Linda Howard too. She's an absolute DOLL isn't she? I loved meeting her.
Cry No More seems to be on everyone's list but I preferred Dream Man. Scared me to death but so damn hot. Son of the Morning was a great paranormal of hers. She's only written a few but this one was excellent.
I actually have Dream Man somewhere around my house but I've never read it. Guess I better!
You need to Kell. Tell me what you think. Spooky spooky but you'll love the heroine. I know YOU and your heart will go out to her. She's an empath who feels people's emotions and suddenly she's feeling the emotions of this serial killer. And the hero is hot hot hot. I picked it up, finished in one sitting and immediately started reading it all over again. I seldom do that.
I'm with you, Des; I LOVE Jean M Auel's books! It's been 5 years since the last one; I want to know what's going to happen next!
Regina--I know I've read Son of the Morning but I can't for the life of me remember the plot. Gonna have to go searching through my boxes, I think.
Des--I've never read Harrison, but I've just added her to my TBB list. Any suggestions which book to start with?
