On Monday I was rather depressed. Sometimes I just have days like that. The sun is freaking hibernating and the weather is just damned cold. I hate this crap. Today, a friend sent me this picture (thanks for the laughs, Jen!):
So, did any of it help? Yes! Tuesday and Wednesday I ended up getting 6,000 words written in my current WIP and I'm hoping for another 3,000 today. Man, I love feeling productive! Even though my daughter is driving me nuts--teenagers, do NOT get me started--I'm still smiling and still intent on not letting myself get bummed.
I took some advice from you all that helped get me over the blahs. I did sit and watch a movie with my kids on Monday. Babylon A.D. with Vin Diesel. It was really good. And last night I could've spent the evening working on the computer (I have another job besides writing that forces me to sit at this computer for hours at a time). Instead I stopped and watched American Idol and then Criminal Minds. My youngest daughter and I love both of those shows. We went in her room, turned out the lights and watched it together. It's so cool to spend time like that with her. It's neat to watch her try and figure out whodunit. Sometimes she's right too. That kid loves to solve puzzles.
So, it became clear that part of my problem is the Winter Blues. I get it every year. It causes me to feel sad for no reason, to eat more than I normally do, to have nearly no energy...heck there's a list of symptoms. I want to know, am I the only one who gets this in the winter? What do you do?
Also, I have some good news. My website's been updated. New blurbs, reviews, excerpts...Thanks to the fabulous Rae Monet. She rocks! Check it out here when you get the time. One thing I want to know if you do check out my site. Is it easy to navigate?
Last but not least, Burn Notice comes back on tonight! Woot! Don't forget to set your DVRs!
How apt, right? LOL I'm so thankful for everyone who commented and for the friends who always take the time to send me jokes and things. I may not always reply, I get in a hurry with my email sometimes, but I'm always grateful for the smiles.

Hi Anne! So glad that you are feeling happy again. The winter blues suck! :) Glad you were able to pull yourself out. We've all been there.
Thanks for letting me know Burn Notice starts back tonight. Yay!! And congrats on your productive streak...send a little productiveness my way if you can. :)
By the way, nice updates to your site!!
xoxo, Sophia
So glad you're feeling better, Anne. You're kicking butt on this book. Congrats. That's great.
6000 words is nothing to be depressed over! That's great and I admit to jealously. I haven't had time to site and really write, and I miss that.
I know a lot of people with the Winter Blues (Seasonal Affective Disorder). My mom got a sun lamp which is supposed to help psychologically offset it. Personally, I think she likes to warm herself and pretend she's at the beach. But if it helps, it helps.
Thanks Sophia! OMG, I love Burn Notice! They're showing all the shows all day today. I keep getting distracted, lol.
Thanks, Kelley! If I can do 3k today and another 3k tomorrow, I think that'll be a record week for me. :)
Isabel--Thanks for the tip on the sun lamp! I was considering buying one, but I worry that it's just a waste of money. Sorry you haven't had time to write, that sucks. :-/
Hi Anne!! Congrats on accomplishing the word count and feeling better! I LOVE your blog and the graphics. So cool!

I live in Canada, I totally get sad. Every winter.
Movies make me happy. Talking to friends, reading good books.
I can't wait until spring.
Glad you are feeling better. I think a lot of people get depressed during the dark, cold months. Here in Texas we don't have a lot of dark days but I've noticed when we do, it affects how I feel.
I'm with your youngest--I love Ameriican Idol and Criminal Minds. Maybe she'll grow up to be a forensic scientist.

Hi Anne! I'm so happy you're getting over the blues. Big hugs!

:D
What good timing! I just visited my doc yesterday about this very thing. I thought I was depressed--she told me, "You go through this every year. It's Seasonal Affective Disorder." She prescribed me a mega dose of Vitamin D and wants me to buy a sun lamp. I'll give it a few weeks and see what happens.
I'm glad you're feeling better. Spending time outside really helps, too.
Glad you liked the picture. ; -)
I've never watched Burn Notice. Have you told me about the show before? Are you still watching The Closer? If so, it comes back on this Monday night. I've already got my recorder set.
Uh oh, you had distractions today? I guess I was one of those distractions huh? Sorry about that. But it's been so long since I'd talked to you on the phone.
I don't really get the winter blues in January. I get them more towards the end of the year. Mainly because of being swamped under with year end stuff at work. It gets a bit overwhelming.
I hope you got a bunch of writing done today.
I am almost ALWAYS affected by dreary days. I get more introspective or depressed. I've heard the lamps are really good. Usually when it hits, I'll do what you did and watch something funny or heartwarming and just go with it.
Chris--Thanks for the compliments on the blog. I set it up, but Scott Carpenter did our header and icons. He's a genius! :)
Amy--ooooh, I'd never make it in Canada. I feel for you! And yes, I can't wait until spring!! :)
Linda--my mother is convinced that Alisha should go into into the FBI or something. She's just so observant and she's forever 'profiling' people, though she doesn't realize it.
Valerie--Thanks lady! :)
Rebecca--Vitamin D? OH! I'll try that! Thanks for letting me know!
Jen--no worries, I wanted to talk to ya! I ended up getting four other calls too, so yours wasn't the only one. I didn't get much done, but I plan to make up for that today. :)
Regina--the one thing that helps is opening the curtains, making sure I get as much light into the house as I can. I'm seriously going to look into one of those sun lamps!
