Mommy Alert!!!!

Okay, here's a story to make your MOMMY HACKLES rise!

A few days ago, a woman and her toddler were shopping in a Georgia Wal Mart. The toddler (a two year old girl) was feeling a mite cranky. She was crying loudly. Hey, we've all been there with this sort of thing. It happens. Anyway, a man told the harried mom to "shut that kid up or I'll shut her up for you". The mom wheels her cart into another isle only to to be followed by the man who'd threatened her child. He grabbed the cart and slapped the baby four to five times in the face.

Another man grabbed the attacker while someone else called police. He was arrested and is being held without bail!

OMG!!!! I tried to imagine how I would feel or how I would react if someone had dared to strike my child. Ummm....I'm a pacifist for the most part, but I believe the 'face ripping' would've commenced from the moment he dared say...shut that kid up. If he'd gone as far as lifting his hand to strike I would've been all over his ass like a wild monkey woman.

We've ALL been in places where babies act out by screaming and crying but we're big girls. We deal. Moms? Normally, we remove our screaming child from the store or at least find the 'ladies room' where we can calm the toddler. Now I don't know what this man's problem was but crossing the line landed him in jail. YAY! I hope someone kicks the shit out of him while he's there. I wonder if this man has kids of his own and, if so, I have to wonder what kind of parent he was. Wanna bet he smacked the stuffing out of them on a regular basis?

How would you react if someone had the balls to strike your kid?

Rage, pure and simple. I've been in situations where my girls were made to feel uncomfortable because of some asshole without any sense. I didn't hesitate then, and I sure as hell wouldn't in this situation. No one touches my kid. Ever.

I hope they throw the book at this guy!

Wow...I have no words. That man would have been hurting that's all I can say.

My kids are 18 now, but I can direct you to a couple of hospital administrators who could tell you what a witch I am when someone is out of line and makes my kid cry. If the person had hit one of them?? I probably would be the one in jail..for attempted murder.

I've been talking about this on another list. It's the mom instinct to protect our children.

A clerk in a store reached out and touched my daughter's hair the other day (15 years old...not a baby, mind you)...not even in anger, and I tensed to hit her, because she touched my child uninvited and without even asking to. She just wanted to see Werekitty's shirt and was too stupid to ask my daughter to move her own hair. Touching someone's child uninvited is always bad. Touching someone's small child could be fatal.

If someone touched any of my kids in anger, all bets would be off. I'd postulate he'd get a hand on her, based on momentary shock. I can't imagine him getting 4 or 5 hits in. What was the mother doing? They never say.

By the time he pulled back for a second strike, I'd have beaned him with something hard from the shelf or cart or resorted to a front snap kick to the chest...or broken his nose. After that, I'd be physically between them, and he'd have to take ME on instead of my child.

This guy had to be mentally unbalanced. I know parents were a lot quicker to hit kids in the past. My husband and I both took more than our share of what amounted to child abuse, even then. But, even when I was a child, people did NOT feel free to beat someone else's child, save that spanking was still legal in schools. He was way over the line.

Not to mention that I consider slapping a child in the face ever as child abuse. Flick the cheek or mouth on a young one. Smack the backside. DO NOT smack a child in the face. Beside the psychological damage it can cause, you can do neck damage.

Chris--I hear you! A red haze just comes over me when someone causes my girls to cry. If I'm being honest, I scare myself a little because I just stop thinking and start reacting. In my family I was always the calm one. I really had no idea I was capable of that kind of rage (and yes, it's rage, not anger) until I had kids.

I guess it's that mama bear instinct mothers have...

I kept looking for a report that stated what the mom did when this happened. Did she freeze? Or did the other man grab him before she could move? I don't know. He managed four or five slaps to her face so I wonder. According to the reports I read, the child had some reddening but other than that was fine. STILL!!!!!

I would have been on that man like monkey on ape. No kiddin'.

Really, I think Mothers are ferocious about protecting their children. Even the most mild mannered of us would strike out!

He might get one hand on my child and then he'd be down on the floor in agony because I'd be stomping on his balls.

No one touches my kid. Period.

I cannot believe someone actually did that. What the hell is the matter with people?!?! I'm absolutely enraged for that little girl.

Brenna - I can't believe a complete stranger thought it was okay to adjust your daughter's hair like that. That woman is lucky you didn't clock her!

No one has EVER done something like that to one of my kids but I've been so mad about things that I swear there's this RED HAZE and it's all I can see.

If ya'll want to check out the story it's all over the internet!

I would effin' kill them. Nobody messes with my kids. I had a fist fight with a female coach who verbally abused my ten year old daughter. It was a knock-down drag-out in the middle of a game and our husbands pulled us apart. That man must be bloody insane.

I'm not a mom, but I babysit a lot. I would be completely horrified if someone came up and hit my child or any child. That man had no right to hit another person's child. If I had saw that happen I would probably have beem moved to violence because of it.

That makes me wonder what the bystanders did/thought and how they reacted. If I SAW something like that happen, I'd go ballistic. Apparently someone was quick to grab the guy while someone else called the cops.

Balls? If he had them before he hit my child, he wouldn't after! No one - I don't care who they are will lay a hand on my child. I could probably kill someone for hurting my child.

Oh, I never even imagined such a thing! It could have happened to me. I had one of those children that didn't suffer the smallest inconvenience in silence as a toddler. (Now she's fabulous.)

I've never attacked anyone, but I don't think I would have been able to control it. I'm enraged just imagining it.

He would have been lucky to leave with one of each of his body parts still connected--whichever ones I couldn't reach before security got there (not just appendages--lungs, kidneys...)

As a martial arts instructor, I teach my studenta restraint in the face of an attack...never overreact. Defend. HOWEVER...if I had any person TRY to attack my child like that, or even speak like he was gonna do anything at all...I woulda been BETWEEN him and my kid...and he would be facing some serious knuckles in the mouth, a hard and unforgiving knee to his naughty bits, and possibly a thumb in his eyeball. If the jerk had managed to swing at my kid, his arm would be hanging limp and useless and his face would be pounded to red mush on the floor, with my foot (or feet) on the back of his neck.

Um...sorry about that...got carried away. >:(

Nobody messes with my kids! When my daughter was in the 4th grade, the head of the PTA had my daughter pulled out of class, brought to the office and harrassed over something she had no control over. I won't elaborate on the specific issue because it still raises my blood pressure 12 years later! Let me just say, when my daughter was in high school, parents and teachers still called me when a battle needed to be fought!

Wow--what a wack job! As Brenna said, I'm not really comfortable with strangers touching my children. And striking them is out of the question. While I'm all about discipline, that's WAY over the line into crazy abuse.

You all are a bunch of warrior women and I'm proud to know you. Nothing pisses us off more than an attack on the innocent and on our OWN INNOCENTS????? Watch the heck OUT.

He would be lucky if he was alive and in the hospital if he slapped my kid even once! The second slap would never have happened. I have good reflexes when it comes to my son.

If the guys in the jail find out they'll have to put him in solitary to keep him alive. They don't like people messing with kids.
