Shara Lanel talks Fall TV

Ah…it’s autumn. Well, not officially, but it’s been feeling like it, which for central Virginia is unusual. Some year’s we have picnicking weather in January. I’m from Western NY, so that was shocking when I first moved down here. Anyway, besides back to school (Yeah for moms everywhere!) September means the fall season on TV. Yes, I love the summer shows, like Psych, Monk, and Royal Pains, but their seasons tend to be way too short. True Blood just wrapped up (guess I need to cancel HBO), and the BBCA shows Being Human and Torchwood were way too short.

What have you been watching this summer?

Now I’m anticipating the shows I’ve missed since spring: Mentalist, Castle, Supernatural, and Dollhouse (I’m shocked this got picked up for another season). My crit partner says I watch too much TV. I don’t know what he’s talking about. **blinking innocently** Hmm, Smallville, Gossip Girl, Medium…

What shows have you been waiting to return? Any of your fave shows canceled? I really like The Unusuals, which came on mid-season and didn’t even have a chance to shine.

Then there’s the new shows. Ever since I was a kid (before DVDs and cable) this was a very exciting time. I always read the TV Guide’s Fall Preview issue. Now they break it up over two issue (new and returning)…I’m sure you’re thrilled=2 0to know that, aren’t you?

First of all, what’s with the plethora of hospital shows? Yeah, yeah, ER ended, but honestly which is which? Flashforward sounds interesting, but possible depressing—something about everyone bouncing to the future then back to the present. When the characters from the new NCIS: LA were introduced at the end of the last NCIS season, I wasn’t too impressed, but I’ll give them a try. I’m bored by the new Melrose Place. Then there’s the new version of V. I have a distinct memory of someone giving birth to a reptile…when was it…in the 80s?

So the shows I’ve been anticipating the most are Eastwick—gotta love witches and magic—and Vampire Diaries—gotta love vampires. Btw, someone was saying that Vampire Diaries is a total rip-off of Twilight, but if you look it up Vampire Diaries came out in 1999, so I’m pretty sure if anyone is the copy it’s Twilight copying VD.

So if you’re as TV obsessed as I am, let me know what you’re looking forward to this fall season. I’d love to hear from you!

I love TV ;)

I started Vampire Diaries and want to see Eastwick, The Good Wife, Cougartown, Flash Forward and V (Morena who was Inara in Firefly is in it.)

My Tivo is already quite full with my other favorite shows. Hey, it's inspirational, right?

Hi Shara! Thanks for visiting us today!
I never miss True Blood. I won't be cancelling my HBO though because it's coming back for another season. Now I'm looking forward to a new season of Big Love and I'm hearing crazy things about Dexter. Figure I'll watch those until True Blood comes back on.

Hi, Shara! Thanks so much for hanging out with us today (I'm also Madison Scott). I'm not a big TV watcher. In the summer I watched TB. Love that show. For the fall I will be watching Vampire Diaries though its not a must see like TB was. I know its crazy but my hubby and I also watch Operation Repo together. LOL. That show cracks me up.

The 2 shows I'm most looking forward to are Southland and Castle. I just started watching Castle so I caught up over the summer and now I'm hooked. Not very realistic (I wish) but loads of fun. And apparently Michael Connelly and Stephen Cannel are on as guests in the season premiere. I've never actually seen Connelly other than pics.

I may check out Fringe, though it's starting to live up to its name and getting a little too weird. Oh, and Numb3rs,

Thanks for visiting us today, Shara!!

I LOVE TV and movies both! I can't wait for Criminal Minds and Castle both. Also, Supernatural just started back up and that's my favorite show ever.

Hey everyone! Thanks for your comments.

MJ, totally inspirational! I've heard that some writers take cable off their taxes. (I'm not that brave.)

Regina, Dexter has been out a bit, right? So you could probably zip through it on DVD. I'll sign up for HBO again when 3rd season of TB starts.

Kelley, I don't think I've seen Operation Repo. I'll have to check it out.

P.A., I couldn't get into Southland, but I love Castle. I guess I want to be a little farther away from reality. I watched Fringe for a bit 1st season--the characters were really cute but the plot...I don't know--I couldn't deal with it anymore.

Anne and Kelley aka Madison, Thanks for having me!

Anne, I love Criminal Minds. I do think the episodes with Mandy Patinkin were my faves. But Shemar Moore is to die for!

Oh, I know someone who has been published for like ten years and she writes her cable off on taxes. I havent' done it yet either.

Vampire Diaries was surprisingly good. I always miss Supernatural, Bones. Looking forward to Fringe and Castle returning. Watched True Blood, Torchwood (disappointing!) and some strange BBC shows over the summer.

Joyce, Torchwood was too short and too down. I was bawling at the end.

Hi Shara, I'm with you on the summer shows being too short. I'm a huge Eureka fan and this week it's all done after like 6 eps. I was a Buffy girl so I'm trying out Vampire Diaries. I also love Supernatural and am looking forward to V since I was a fan in the 80's. My fave show though, is Sons of Anarchy. Hot guy with hot bike...I am there like hot fudge on a sundae. Plus it's very well written and I love Katey Sagal.

Wow, I was beginning to think that I was the only TV addict who writes :)

Heroes fan here big time. Looking forward to Dollhouse (glad they brought it back despite it's less-than-stellar ratings), Gray's Anatomy, Private Practice, Medium, Ghost Whisperer. Flashforward reminds me too much of Lost and I fell out of love with Lost its third (or thereabouts) incomprehensible season. I'm intrigued, but I don't think I'm going to put myself through it. Miss Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (and they left fans in a really lousy place too). STILL missing 4400 and it's been gone at least 2-3 years. Maybe The new V will help :) Yeah, I remember that repitile birth. Don't know how the new one is going to beat that. Definite water cooler moment. Yeah, it was the 80's. I think I might have still been in school. Vampire Diaries is cute, but I wouldn't call it Must See TV for me yet. Haven't even tuned into Melrose Place, though I was an avid fan of the original. Community and Cougartown look really cute too... Arrrrgh! Too many shows. I already don't have enough time to write as it is, LOL.
