Vacations!

Like Regina said yesterday, summer is here! It's crazy and the year just flew by. It feels like yesterday at I was on this blog saying I couldn't believe my oldest was starting kindergarten. Feels like I went to bed, woke up and now she's graduating kindergarten. I'm realizing as the years keep speeding by at a faster rate that we don't get these years back. My kids are six and two and we've NEVER been on a family vacation. My hubby and I sat down and talked about it recently and we're finding a way to MAKE it happen this year. We have to. The kids aren't getting any yonger and I want these memories of our family. I want to see things with them and want to fill photo albums of all our family times.

Granted, it probably won't be a big trip, but I don't think that matters. What will matter is we're together. That we will be spending time with our girls and showing them things they've never seen. We live in Southern California and are looking to do something relatively close to us and something that won't cost TOO much. I need some ideas! What are some family trips you've gone on? Have any sugesstions for us?

We used to do that when our kids were really young. Often work called or they had other scheduled things so we'd work it out. Often we'd just go for a long weekend somewhere and when kids are little they seldom notice it's not a looooong vacation. Maybe a place with cute little shops and great places to eat. Maybe a town where there is an awesome zoo or children's museum. They have some interactive kids museums that are really cool. While there take them for ice cream or lunch at an outdoor cafe with umbrellas at the tables. Kids love that stuff. Or at least mine did.

Good ideas, Reg. We're thinking of going somewhere for about four days. That way we can have a couple at home with Dom off too. I would LOVE to go to San Fran, but not sure it will happen.

We always did weekend trips with the boys. Zoos were the family favorite as well as parks. Even huge flea markets entertained them.

They were happy just to go anywhere.

Have you traveled to The Grand Canyon or Mesa Verde, Colorado yet? I was going to suggest Yellowstone when I saw the 'close to S California'...

Perhaps a state park where you can do some sort of outdoor adventure? Camping, hiking, canoeing...
My mother likes to tell me stories of when she took me camping and found rocks in my diaper LOL!

When I was little we used to do a lot of camping. It's less expensive than staying at in a hotel and I always remember it being a really fun time.

When my girls were little we used to go to Great Wolf Lodge. Ever hear of it? It's an indoor waterpark and hotel. All under one roof. Family oriented. The girls LOVED this place when they were little. Not sure there's any close to you, but maybe something similar?

Anyway, here's a link: http://www.greatwolf.com/

Molly,

Thanks to every for your idea! We'll come up with something. I can't wait!
