Balancing the muse

I have two very strong-willed muses inside my head. While some may think that's a blessing, and yes I agree, but other times it can be damn confusing too. See, I write in two totally different genres: Erotic and YA. You can't find farther ends of the spectrum so yeah... it can be difficult when both my muses are speaking up at once!

I don't want to silence the chatty women of course because hey, I need them, but it's pretty hard to balance the two sometimes. It's kind of like the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other. They both REALLY want their stories told today and one doesn't mind jumping in when I'm working on the other. But with them, they come together and it's not good ;).

I guess it wouldn't have if I became a little more organized. Gave each girl her allotted time and didn't cave when she begs too hard, but how do I know if I ignore her, she won't go away? LOL. So, lately my days have been spent jumping back and forth between parent issues and work place flings. But you know what, I wouldn't change it! I'm doing what I love in all forms and consider myself damn lucky!

Those muses everyone talks about seem to be pretty fickle too. Are yours? And having two of them? WOW...
I feel for ya, hon. Really do.

I do have trouble from time to time with wanting to write on one book or another. Sometimes I'm just too inspired and too in the zone.

But I don't have a muse and I'm kind of glad I don't. That fickle thing would drive me batty. lol

And I so understand about family and writing. For sure.

I know exactly what you mean about writing one book when the other is calling. Like Tess, I don't play by muses, but when I'm writing something to a deadline when a different manuscript shouts louder it drives me bananas!

I'm having the hardest time right now because I have a series calling me, begging me to write it. I WANT to write it! But I have deadlines, stories that I'm obligated to write. I love them too, but it's so damn hard to ignore that series!

The hardest part of writing is balancing those muses. Love this post!

I honestly can't imagine how difficult it would be to shift from YA to erotic. Does it just depend on what you're FEELING that day? I really admire that. Not sure I could do it.

My problem now is all these STARTS I have. Nothing is screaming at me right now so I just keep bouncing back and forth between them. It's driving me bonkers.

Tess, they are fickle. It makes it tough simetimes.

It's so hard to balance the writing and family too, isn't it?

Nat,

The multiple book thing is hard for me too. I actually have three going right now. One is about 7k in goal is 60, the next is 13k in, goal is 60 and the last I'm doing adding wordcout too and revising a bit.

Anne, Thanks! Isn't it killer when you want to work on one thing, but you HAVE to work on something else? I experienced that earlier in the year with some deadlines I had. It was almost like a road block for the one I had to work on!

Reg, It is hard, but I love both genres so much that I find a way to make it work. Sometimes I do one one day and the other the next. It really depends on my mood. There are also times I work consistently on one, finish the project and then work on the other. It varies.

I've got two on the go and one I'm meant to be writing but haven't started. Oops!
