Back to School

When my kids were little, I remember being so excited for the end of a school year. Just knowing that everyone could just chill out for awhile, sleep late, PLAY and have fun was much anticipated but by mid July thoughts turned to 'back to school'. We were always in a mad scramble to squeeze in that final vacation before hitting the stores to stock up on what was needed to get back into the groove of school again. Funny how I always began to get really antsy about all of that. I was torn. Part of me was sad about the whole thing yet a BIGGER part was secretly jumping up and down because I was ready for a bit of regimentation. I needed direction and with the kids home all day that just wasn't possible.

I always figured when my kids headed off to college all of that would change but that hasn't necessarily been the case. We STILL do vacations, sleep late, loll around, etc and schedules are  blown to smithereens. This summer hasn't been much different from others. I DID manage to write a couple of books this summer (amazing achievement all things considered) and that's not bad but my writing productivity feels shot to hell. Now we are back from our wonderful Florida vacation and packing up my daughter to head back to school. She leaves a little early because we're moving her into a new apartment and you know how that is...a gazillion details. I've never thought of myself as a highly organized person but guess what? I AM. Being out of a routine seriously messes with my head. I've spent the past several weeks agonizing about not getting my stuff done. Everything else is getting in the way. Sometimes, I think, life is just like that and we have to just relax, go with the flow, and not be quite so hard on ourselves. Once this move is done and I'm back in my little world the words will flow and my routine will be established again. I'm ready for it.

Anyway, I've been wondering if it's just me who feels the world is a little nuts right now!

In other news: Return of the Daredevil has a release date. This is the sequel to Return to Delight (Ellora's Cave, March) and tells the story of Cooper Dobb's brother, T, and Melanie Honeycutt. This book releases from Ellora's Cave on August 10.

Blurb:
Scrumptious scoundrel. Daredevil T Dobbs, the sexiest cowboy to ever walk the streets of Delight, Texas, headed out of town taking Melanie Honeycutt’s heart with him. But now he’s back and hotter than ever. Trust him? Her head says no but her body has other ideas.

Stubborn woman. She was the girl T never forgot and the woman he yearns for in the deepest part of his heart. But what’s a man to do when she doesn’t believe he’s home for good? T knows his way around dangerous curves and Mel’s are hot enough to burn a man. He figures it’ll take a slow hand and some downright smokin’ hot sex to melt her reserve but he’s definitely up for the challenge.

I've already bought all of Brian's school supplies. I really can't wait for him to start 1st grade and neither can he. He's bored with summer because its been too hot to go outside and play. Our two vacations this year have been awesome and we still have one more to go plus a weekend in Dallas with folks. Whew!

I'm tired and hot and await the end of summer and cooler and the beginning of the school. Ask me in 12 years if I feel the same. LOL!

Can't wait for T & Melanie's story. Two more weeks...that's too long.

We find out tomorrow if the grandkids will be going to school down here or not. Right now, 'Mom' is adamant about them returning home; we still maintain she's not looking at the Big Picture. We'll see if the spouse and SIL can talk some sense into her.

No more kids at home. They are married and setlled with their own families, so you think we'd be free? No way. We had the grandchildren for a month. Four adorable kids, (7, 6.5, 5.5 and 5 years). I enjoyed every minute of their time with us in FL, but I think this loving grandma is ready to send them back to their parents and schools.

You are so not the only one, Regina. I cannot wait for school to begin so I can have my life and schedule back to normal. Cole loves camp and wants to stay there until closing time everyday. Of course that means I have hours on end to find stuff to do. Problem is, everything I want to do it at home, and home is way on the other side of town.

I just got a wireless keyboard for my iPad. Now I have been able to go up the street to the bookstore, get a coffee, stick my headphones in and write. It helps get some stuff accomplished, but then when I get home, I have to type retype everythif into the MS. Lol! Kinda assbackwards. So, yes!! School...bring it on! Lol!!

Big congrats on your upcoming release!! Loved Return and can't wait for this one!!! :0))))

Believe me, in 12 years you'll feel the same. Summer reaches a point where it just DRAGS. How exciting though that Brian is starting first grade!!!! Hard to forget those moments. Exciting for him but tough on mom and dad! LOL

Hope you like it, Harley!!!!

Oh Gosh! Hope that all works out in the best way possible for those kids, Molly!

(((((HUGS))))) Mona! Lots of fun but TIRING. There is a reason that very young women have the babies.

That's the way I always am, Elece (especially when the kids were as young as Cole and Harley's Brian). They begin to get restless and everything is just chaos. Once they are back into their schedules, you can reclaim your own and it's just such a nice relaxing feeling.

There is nothing wrong with a regiment. There is nothing wrong with relaxing and going with the flow. I kinda think that we all do this, kids or not. I know when school is out because public transportation becomes less crowded. LOL I used to love school shopping getting ready for the semester and then I loved planning a vacation somewhere mid-semester for the summer. I have had 2 vacations this summer and my crazy family is trying to plan a sneak attack in November - mainly because the older cousins are now retired and expect the still working to roll with em' I think we all like some sort of structure, it helps us set goal, meet them and then plan for even more fun.

Absolutely Cira. It's almost like the changing of the seasons and we all need the change. Personally, I'm ready for a bit more structure in my life. I get lots more done that way.

I know exactly how you feel because I'm feeling the same way. Out of sync, no routine and HOT as hell outside. It plays havoc with my mind when things don't go like they should. I've got to learn to lighten up and go with the flow. So many people have told me this over and over but I still haven't gotten the hang of it! One day. Hopefully my vacation in a few weeks will chill me out for awhile. College son stayed for summer school so I never had the 'feel' of summer vacation at home. He was the first to do this so I had no break in my schedule. He's home for a week and then he starts the fall semester! Its funny how I got use to bringing someone home from college and loved the mothering I can do while they were here. oh well. Life threw me a curve and its taken me this long to realize it. Hopefully when this summer heat goes I'll feel a little better. One can always hope!

I can't wait for school to begin again! In the past, our summers have included daily trips to the pool and other fun stuff, but surprisingly the heat wave has kept us at home! Wish we could have better weather.

Your book sounds delightful! Can't wait to read it.

I am so ready for some regimentation. Definitely. This whole moving thing has thrown me for a loop. I feel upside down.

I can't wait to have quiet all day long while the boy is in school and the kids are at work and school. I'm going to put a lock on my door too!

Things are going to change. Tess is getting serious!
