Confession of a former print book snob & other things

Yep, I know it's shocking! I really didn't like ebooks. I hated sitting in one place to read an entire book. With my ADD I move around a lot while reading. It's entertaining for others, but annoying for me. Plus I had the typical attitude of most ignorant, stupid & clueless people. If it didn't come from a NY publisher then it was't worth reading. Oh man I wasted a lot of time on CRAPPY NY print books.

What changed my mind? E-book readers!! I LOVE them!! I have an iPad and read books on it all the time. Mostly I love the instant gratification available with ebooks. There are new authors out there I never heard of until I started reading on the iPad. Now? I can't imagine not having these books on my auto-buy list. Love it!!

Now there's another topic I brought up over at FB this week & I want to know everyone's opinion. Here's what I asked...

"Why do stupid people talk to me? Really? Latest comment from the land of idiots: "Real writers aren't on FB.They have better things to do." Huh, looks like I'm not a real writer, nor have I written real books. I guess my readers are imaginary too, right? Hmm, somehow I don't think I could have come up with the crazies that are my readers. That's too out there even for me."

Now hit me with your opinions, thoughts & brain farts. I want to know exactly how this idiot makes you feel & what you want to do to him.

That's it for this week, peoples. Until next Wednesday....

First off, I read both e and print books. I still the feeling of the paper and the smell of a new book. Its a thing. Plus, I could hang out in a library all day long. Its the inner geek in me.

Now, that said...some of my "keeper" paperbacks are now coming out in ebook form. And yes, I'm scooping them up for the Nook.

Oh and you are a REAL writer. People are such morons sometimes.

I share your outrage, but I've become so worn down by these idiots over time (especially those who hate romance and think it rots your brain) that I can't muster a defensive argument or even a comeback anymore. I just leave their small minds alone.

We know what they're missing, and it's their loss.

I think most people who put down romance books are probably not readers. At least alot of the ones I have run into, don't read much of anything. And others have not stopped to think about the romance in their books. Alot of thrillers/mysteries have alot of romance underneath it. But as I tell them, you don't buy my books so you don't choose. I don't tell you what to like/not like so don't try to tell me. I am personally very proud to be a romance reader and am thankful for all the talented authors who write the books I love.

I love reading ebooks! Since getting the first iPhone and discovering that ebooks even exist, I've read 2 paperbacks. I am definitely a person of instant gratification. Now! Now! Now!! Hmm...wonder if that's my problem with writing?! Lol!

As for the "idiot"...dumbass!! That's what I got. And that was being overly nice. Personally, a smart writer would be on FB. There is no better way to be "out there" for your readers. Hell, I've come across so many new authors on FB. And guess what? Those who actually interacted, I now read their books. Now they may be sorry they ever did. LOL!!! Some people should just keep their pie hole shut or stick their head back where it was!

As far as the idiot goes..."stupid is as stupid does"...or says in this case. Why not FB? It's free advertisement, you meet new sparkly people...(hehe)& this is the friggin 21st century, man!!! OMG

As for ebooks/print books...I read both but like you Allie I LUV my reader (Kindle!!) Download on the spot and mega long battery charge! There are a few books I have in print...the series ones...and I display them in my bedroom bookshelf like trophies! They become family and I can't get rid of them!! I dont even lend them to friends!!LOL But since I am a self proclaimed technology geek...I will say I don't regret discovering ebooks!!!

Like a lot of people, I read both print and ebooks now. Since I got my kindle, I have found lots of new favorite authors to add to my must buy list. I buy most books now in e form but I still get print copies of some from my favorite writer's back list that I missed that are not available in ebook. Another factor people have not mentioned is budget. Ebooks tend to be less expensive than print versions so that means I can buy more books. Yea! And they are easier to store, don't require shipping, are easy to sort into collections and save trees. My SIL is an ebook snob but she is very traditional and a bit of a technophobe - she does not even have email or internet at home, despite having a home computer. Can we say expensive typewriter?

And as for the idjit that says real writers are not on FB? Do we even have to dignify that person with more than a scathing look? There are tons of authors with books on NY Times bestseller lists on FB and that person doesn't really think that they are not real writers do they? Ron White is correct - you just can't fix stupid.

I read a bit of everything from ebooks to paperbacks, bestsellers to small house publications. As long as it is a good story that caught my interest I'm not caught up with the whole hype business of reading what is deemed the BEST. I tend to ignore idiots and their small minds.

I have a huge TBR pile of print books and a virtual pile of e-books. I seem to be ignoring both while writing and revising my own e-books, but I love to read. If there were no books, I would be reading the back of ketchup bottles. Just keep writing. People will keep reading.
