Strange Happenings

Seriously? How in the world did these people survive?! Amazing!

Real:
(source: AOL News)It took surgeons in Putian, China, 30 minutes to extract this 4-inch pair of nail scissors from a man's throat. He was using them as a toothpick when a friend's joke made him laugh -- and down went the scissors, according to London's Daily Mail.

(source: AOL News) A 6-inch pair of surgical scissors appears in the abdomen of Australian Pat Skinner in April 2004 -- 18 months after her initial operation.
So, your mother was right, never play with scissors! (and watch those surgeons! Yikes!)
Out of curiosity, have you ever been in a bizarre accident or has anything really strange ever happened to you?

Melts in your mouth—not in your heart.

Anne Rainey takes indulging the senses to a whole new level with two stories that are melt-in-your-mouth sexy!

Touching Lace

Lacey Vaughn is convinced she needs help in the ways of seduction. Being the good best pal he is, Nick Stone offers to give her a few pointers in the ways of sexual pleasure. From his first touch, Lacey forgets all about lessons. All she wants is more of him. Having craved Lacy for months, Nick is ready to be seen as more than the dreaded good friend. He's ready to lay it all on the line to have the little spitfire all for himself—including his heart.

Tasting Candy

Blade Vaughn is hungry for sex and there's only one woman on his menu: Candice Warner. But when he witnesses the shy beauty go into a panic over a harmless encounter, it becomes about more than just sex. He's out to prove that sex with him is just the therapy she needs. Candice is used to being afraid of her own shadow. She's ready to get over her past trauma and start living again. But it's hard when panic threatens every time the one man she wants comes near.
Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex using graphic terms. A naughty make-out session in a public place, and lots of steam.

LOL sadly that stuff happens quite a bit. There's a show on tv (grr, can't remember name or channel right now) that shows operating room disasters like that happening all the time. The surgeons leave stuff in bodies. Ick.

I LOVE the stories in the new Samhain. So glad to see them go to print. Gotta go order it now so I have a keeper!

I think my weirdest accident was when the wind blew a door shut on me and it lopped off the end of my right index finger. It got reattached, fell off again, reattached once more. I still have a finger though it's kinda funny shaped, hypersensitive and has limited mobility.

Amanda--I can't imagine how they could lose a pair of scissors and not realize it. Ack!! I gotta put that in a book. LOL

Des--Dang! Seriously, wow. I can't imagine the pain of that! I cringed reading your comment.

They lose lots of stuff in people when they are operating. Sponges, etc. One guy they left a 18 inch long metal instrument in his abdomen. He was in a great deal of pain and very ill for months before they finally decided to xray and saw the what the surgeons had left. If I remember correctly, he was left with a permenant disablilty from it.

Well...I used to work in the ER and have some crazy stories. Most of the ones I remember however, aren't very appropriate. LOL.

Congrats on the release. Gorgeous cover. Read and loved Touching Lace.

All I can say is Wow! I've heard stories about surgeons leaving things behind, but this is the first x-ray I have seen. *Knock on wood* I don't have to experience it first hand.

AND I think the bookcover is HOT HOT HOT!!!

The only problem I have right now is trying to pinpoint my Reaction...lol...it's a toss up between Interesting and HOT! LOL...man...I want to pick both!

Anne Rainey said...

Chris R--Oh no. How do the surgeons NOT notice?!

Kelley-Thanks. I really do love that cover! :)

You know, as many weird things as I come up with for myself... Having the tip of my finger cut off with an unshielded razor blade (someone else's fault)... Having a broken point of glass go through my fingernail (my own clumsiness)... Getting my finger crushed in a spotlight collapse (again, someone else's fault)... Stepping on a leaf in a swimming pool, and having the dead bee beneath it drive into my foot, so it had to be CUT out...

Few everyday events can beat my next younger brother on a tear! When he was three, he got his fingers caught in a door jamb (by sticking them in the opposite end, while it was open, and the teacher closed it...against my warning). When he was four, he broke his jaw...NOT his lower jaw like any normal person does...his UPPER jaw. Long story there. When he was six, a planned prank on me (involving a teeter totter) left him with a broken nose and me with a bruised tailbone. Yeah...he didn't jump back far enough. When he was eight, he managed to shoot me in the back of the thigh with an arrow. Oh, wait! That's me getting hurt! I doubt the beating he took for it was as bad as pulling that arrow was. And when he was nine, he managed to get a nest of wasps swarming and had to be rushed to the ER.

Beyond that... Did you guys hear about the man who (apparently) inhaled a bit of pine tree while he was working in the forest. He went to the doctors, who thought he had a tumor in his lung. Turns out, the moist, warm lung was perfect for growing a young tree that they had to remove!

Queen--Awesome! I'm glad you like my stories!

Brenna--My lord in heaven! That's a lot of bizarre accidents, lady!! LOL And no, I hadn't heard about the tree guy. Now if we put that in a book our editors would want it removed because it'd just be way too far fetched! LOL

Truth is decidedly stranger than fiction! I wrote a blog a few months back about how well-meaning editors will veer to a stereotype and, in the process, CREATE what amounts to unreality in books.

Hmm, I have a few strange things that have happened to me including stepping on a blade of grass while barefoot and having it grow up my leg. It was over 12 inches long when they pulled it out. I fell over a big wheel and split my tongue in two. It was so bad they had to stitch my tongue closed! I stood up, took one step and fell, breaking my wrist so severely the only thing holding it on was my skin. I'm thankful to say no foreign materials have been left in me after surgery... that I know of!
Great blurbs, Anne, can't wait to read the books. Congratulations!

Anne Rainey said...

Jennifer--Dang, a blade of grass? Really? How crazy is that, right? And I hear you about the surgery. I think the frightening thing is, it could be there and you might not even realize it. Freaky!

And thanks for the compliments about the blurbs! :)

Wow, I thought my kids and I were accident prone, but you guys have us beat. Great bookcover!

Thanks, Caroline! :)

Luckily my life has been pretty tame as far as weird accidents go.

Your stories sound great, Anne. Congrats!

Anne Rainey said...

Emma--I feel pretty lucky after reading all these comments! LOL

Thanks for the compliments on my stories. :)

Ooooh congrats on your first PRINT. It's just gorgeous, Anne and I can't wait to dig in!!!

My husband is a lawyer and I'll never forget a course he took while in law school. It was legal medicine and OMG...you wouldn't believe the stuff that got left in patients during surgery. Little scissors (like you showed in your post), sponges..crazy.

There was a segment on the Today show not long about about a man who got drilled in the head with a nail gun. He was walking and talking at the doctor. They had pics of him with this huge nail sticking out of his skull. He was just fine and they got it out,no problem.

Anne Rainey said...

Regina--it's official I NEVER want surgery!!! Dang, you'd think they'd freaking notice a pair of scissors or a sponge. Geez!~
