my first book signing

So, I told some of you that I recently had my first ever book signing. It wasn't a smashing success, but it was good experience. I came away having learned what I'd do differently. I don't think I showed any pictures, but my MIL came over the other day and gave me a few that she'd taken. So, I figured I'd scan one in and show you all.

This is at the Borders in our local mall. The staff was very friendly and made me feel very welcome. (click for a larger view) In other news....Taking Chloe gets 5 cherries at Whipped Cream. How cool is that? My first review from them too! *grin*

Here's a snippet: "Ms. Rainey writes a steamy novella, no doubt. Her characters are rich with life and human qualities that draw the reader into the story. The scenes are vibrant and filled with passion. The writing style flows well, hooking the reader from page one until the very end." --Tiger Lily

Congratulations!! I've often heard that book signings can be intimidating, but you've got a great smile going. What are some things you'd do different? What was your favorite part?

Thanks, Jennifer! :)

Here's my list of things I’d change or do differently next time:

1.) I’d pick a better location. We live in the country and there are a lot of Amish, so the area isn’t really a hotbed for romance.

2.) The day was really nice out, which meant the mall was rather bare. I’d try to pick a rainy day or do it during cold weather. That way more people are indoors.

3.) I’d much rather do a signing with someone else. At least one other author. That way you attract more attn and probably sell more books. Plus, it never hurts to have a buddy, it would’ve taken some of the tension off.

AND the next solo signing I do is going to be when I hit NYTimes. Hehe! (one can dream!)

Let me know, since I'm not far and we'll pick a crummy weather day and have a multi-author signing! Kudos on the review.

Congrats Anne! You look totally gorgeous. Pairing up really helps, even at my library, several authors can "get each others back" lol. Best of luck to you.

Way Cool Anne!!

Maybe you'll get to do more elsewhere. Phoenix is good but only in the winter. It's 110 here today.

Excellent review!!

You are such a little cutie, Anne. I swear! I've done a couple of booksignings and they make me soooo uncomfortable. Guess I'll never get used to self-promotion and lets face it, writers are often private people.

I tried to look at it as not a 'money-maker' but something that allows interaction with readers. It's fun but not something I would want to do all the time. Thing is, you learned some stuff about this and now know what you might do differently.

Oh something else. LOL. I'm late commenting and now you can't shut me up. HA. I've done solo signings and joint signings. Joint signings are ALWAYS better. You have someone to chat with and I think it makes it easier for readers to come up. Maybe they don't feel so cornered if several authors are chatting and laughing.

Also...cold weather/rainy days are perfect. A friend of mine owned a bookstore and often hosted signings. The said that hands down the best attended were on bad weather days.

Linda--Thanks for the compliment and the tip! :)

Connie--I'd like to do one at Barnes and Noble. That'd be more successful I think.

Regina--Thanks! :) I think the best is at events like Lori Foster's Get Together. Because EVERYONE there loves romance. You can't go wrong in a room full of romance lovers!

Are you going to the EC Con? That's going to be a huge hit too. Nothing but people who love EC. You can't go wrong!
