Are My Eyes Playing Tricks On Me?

Fetish anyone? I don’t have one. At least I don’t think so. There is nothing that I like doing so much that I could say it’s a fetish. Well…maybe eating peanut butter. But that’s not a fetish—unless you were to smear it on someone’s toes and lick it off and do that a lot. AND!!! It would have to be for the purpose of sexual arousal. I guess. Lol

And no, I don’t plan on licking peanut butter off of anyone’s toes. Or anything else off of anyone’s toes for that matter. YUCK!

So how did I arrive at this particular subject? Hmmm…long story.

I was driving down the road and glanced to my left and saw a billboard. Now I’m traveling 50 mph and, of course, read the sign rather quickly. Here’s what I saw: OVER 60? SINGLES VACATION ….

Then it had an 800 number and a website address. Not that I needed that info. It was the OVER 60 part of it that snagged my attention in the first place. No, I’m not OVER 60---yet. But someday I will be and the sign started me thinking. What will I be doing when I am OVER 60? What is an OVER 60 vacation like? Is there something special that must be done for that age group? There was a part of me that was insulted for the OVER 60 group. Shuffleboard only? Soft foods only?

Then I narrowed my focus and thought about SINGLES. Okay. Makes sense. Similar age group vacations. Usually I’m not so dense, but trust me—my degree of denseness worsens.  First…the rest of my wandering thoughts.

For the next few days my mind kept going back to that whole singles vacation idea and, of course, I had to think about men and sex and all that stuff. LOL I pictured myself on a singles cruise—all vacationers within my age group. LOL  Now my imagination is pretty vivid, so I had a huge pool and waiters dressed in next to nothing serving up drinks. Towel boys, etc. You get the picture. Everyone was having a great time. Then it hit me.

I was in a swimsuit.

SHIT!!! OH HELL NO!!! GET ME OUTTA HERE!!!!

But no matter how hard I tried to leave that freaking day dream, it just wouldn’t let go. My only recourse was to wrestle down a towel boy and steal his stash! Now appropriately draped in white terrycloth, I allowed my gaze to wander and check out everyone’s body.

There were people of all sizes and shapes. Mostly people in pretty decent shape, though. I imagine anyone going on a singles cruise and dressed in a swimsuit would not be worrying about covering themselves with towels. Not perfect bodies but there were SOME. Mostly, I was checking out the women--doing a comparison. You know what I mean. And there were some women who just pissed me off! Why were their boobs so damn perky? Why didn’t their thighs jiggle just a little?

I lifted the towel and stole a look at my southwardly sloping breasts. YEAH!!! SAGGING DAMN BOOBS!!! And I’m not even going to talk about my thighs. And thank GOD I had the presence of mind to daydream my way into a one-piece rather than a freaking two-piece. Sighhhhhhhhh

ALL STOP!!!!

I shifted my focus. Okay…this is what you’ve got to work with ol’ gal. WORK IT!!!  WTF? How do I do that? Well, by now you’ve figured out I’m not normal. So working with what I’ve got meant getting on the computer and logging on to Google to search for—you got it—men who like sagging breasts!

I was surprised in two ways. One: There wasn’t a fetish site for men who like sagging breasts. Plenty of porn sites with videos of women with sagging breasts, though. sighhh Two: Most men who commented to women asking if men liked sagging breasts (yeah, I’m not the only one asking it seems), didn’t really seem to care. A few did, but overwhelmingly? Most men were fine with sagging boobs. They mentioned things like self-worth and body image and love. Hmmm…good job guys.

Regardless, I seriously doubt I’m going to run out and flash anyone, though. LOL

Now all of this “singles vacationing” thing has taken up a lot of my time. Really. I thought about it way too much. Was way too critical about myself.  And all because of that damn billboard. Yesterday I was driving down that same road and saw that same billboard. And that’s what prompted me to write this post.

Remember how I said it read: OVER 60? SINGLES VACATION…

Well…it didn’t say that. I misread it. What it said was this:

OVER 60? SHINGLES VACCINATION…

As soon as I got home I took a nap.

Favorite Lines Today at the Blog!

Sometimes I think that what makes or breaks a book is the author’s ability to deliver a really great turn of phrase. You can have an amazing plot, true-to-life characterization, but it’s those lines that stand out that make it all worth the read.

Have you ever been reading and everything is status quo. You’re getting into the characters, the plot is moving along at a nice pace, and then BAM! The author writes a line that just says it all. And as an author, the little green-eyed monster usually nips at me bad!!!! LOL I hear myself saying: I soooo want to write like that. Why can’t I write like that? What school do I need to attend to do it?

Sighhhhhhhh

No school for it. I’ve written some lines that I truly love. But do readers see it that way? I started thinking last night about some of my fave lines from my books and thought I’d post a couple today. And what I’d like everyone to do—readers and authors—is to post a fave line that you’ve read. For authors, it can be a line you’ve written. Or a line from another author’s book. And you can list more than one fave line most certainly. So, authors and readers, have at it! Post your fave lines.Name the author and title of the book, too, if you can. And definitely comment to each other!

Here are my fave lines from some of my own writing:

1.    He was wet panties and get-naked-quick in one fine-looking package. Bottled sin. A walking aphrodisiac. And all that with just a “hello”. –Twelve Days of Love http://www.jasminejade.com/p-9071-twelve-days-of-love.aspx

2.    Diving from the hidden waterfall. That’s the image his mind conjured, the feeling that raced through his body. A euphoric swell of excitement so thick he couldn’t breathe, could only taste and fall further and further, deep into the pool that was her. –Black Cougar Curse http://www.jasminejade.com/p-9014-black-cougar-curse.aspx

3.    What self-respecting forty-three-year-old woman with two grown kids wears hot pink? –Latin Rhythm http://pinkpetalbooks.com/Latin-Rhythm-Tess-MacKall.html

And today I'm showcasing Regina Carlysle's book trailer for Panther Moon. It was created for her by Tina at Topaz Promotions. Panther Moon can be purchased at Ellora's Cave. http://jasminejade.com

Sizing Up Sexy

Before I begin today’s post, Natalie Dae and I want to thank everyone who voted for Black Cougar Curse in Whipped Cream’s Book of the Week Contest. Yayyyy!!!!! It won!!!! And looks like Twelve Days of Love will be having its own little “vote” soon, too. But about that another time. So thanks to everyone who voted! And if you haven't read Black Cougar Curse? Click HERE to find out more about it.
***********************************************************************************
My kid wanted Bojangles chicken. So I was sitting in the drive-thru line and patiently waiting, hitting the seek button on the radio to find something decent to listen to, when this sexy silver fox walks out of the restaurant. I did a double take. Whoaaaaa… Now most of ya’ll know that I like men with seasoning—kind of like my fried chicken! But in this case, the spices happen to be those seasonings that come with a little age and life experiences. I like a man with a bit of character in his face and salt ‘n’ pepper hair or hair with more salt than pepper. Lol I’ve always liked older men. Even when I was in my twenties.

Anyway, I’m watching this dude. Tall—at least six-two or three. Broad shoulders. Tanned. Nice butt! Handsome face—great Alpha strut! My gaze immediately rolled to his left hand. Is he married? No ring. Ohhhh…all right! Yeah yeah yeah. Like I was gonna jump out of the car, run over to him and introduce myself. So NOT. I never do. Guess I’m just curious. And I can always dream, can't I? But I’m way too shy to do something like that! Okay, okay, stop laughing. I am TOO shy. Stop holding your stomach, Regina! Stop it. I tell ya I am TOO shy. Forget it. Not listening to this snickering anymore.(LOL)

So I’m watching him walk into the parking lot and I’m holding my breath now just waiting to see which car is his. You can tell a lot about a man from the car he drives. You know it’s really just an extension of their… Well, there was a nice black Cadillac parked in the direction he was moving, and I’m nodding my head. Smooth, sleek, lots of quiet power—staying power. Ohhhhhh yeah. And then he immediately jumps into a yellow and black striped MINI COOPER! My face scrunched up into what I know was a look of sheer horror. I gulped, almost swallowing my tongue. That tall drink of whiskey had folded up those long legs of his and had gotten into a damn MINI COOPER! I don’t give a damn if Matt Damon DID drive the hell out of one in that movie. It’s just NOT the car for MY kind of man.

A picture of him in bed…uh…errrr…performing…came to mind. He was all over the place. And he was quick about it. Darting here, darting there, spinning around. He reminded me of a honey bee—only I didn’t want to give him the honey. And all the while I’m hearing: “I want a man with sloooooow hand. I want a lover with an eeeezy touch. I want someone who will spend some time. Not come and go in a heated rush…” (Love that song. Love The Pointer Sisters.)

Another one had bitten the dust. I’d have settled for a pickup truck with mud on the tires before that little, itty bitty box! I don’t need any bees buzzin’ ‘round ME!

Okay, I know at least one of you drives one of these cars. Or at least two of you loves these cars and wants one—but really? A man that tall? A man that built? Sorry, the car IS cute, but I can’t see the great Alpha male in that car. So my apologies if you are offended and happy driving!

A few days before this particular incident, I was sitting in one of the shopping center parking lots—not listening to music this time. I was thinking about a plot line. But my kid was in Game Stop and I knew it was going to be a while, so it was safe to think and jot down a few notes. A Dually pulls up in the space across from me. Big ol’ black one. Nice truck. And no, I’m not really into trucks, but I see them as Alpha material for sure—dependent upon which kind, of course, how well-kept it is, etc. This one was nice.

There was a gun rack in the back glass. Expected. A little deer symbol in the left corner of the glass. Expected. The door swings open and this big ol’ boot shows itself along with a long, camo pants encased leg. That boot planted itself on the pavement. I kept waiting on the other leg to join it. But it didn’t. I thought: Hmmm…he’s stretched wide right now. Yeah, I thought that. He had to be tall in order to do this. And he was. He finally brought that other leg out and stood. Ohhhh YUMMY! Definitely military. Biceps, triceps, pecs—all molded inside one of those tightly stretched Army t-shirts. I wanted to reach out and touch the Iron Man. And he HAD to be made of iron. Not a lot of hair, but definitely salt ‘n’ pepper. NO wedding ring. I shook my head. Why am I sooooo shy? REGINA!!!! I’m gonna have to gag you, woman!

And then?

He blew his nose. Through his fingers. Onto the pavement. Wiped his hand on those camo pants and started walking toward the sidewalk. I collapsed onto the steering wheel and the horn blared. I sat up just in time to see him turn around and look. I sank in the seat, making myself as small as possible. “PLEASE, dear Lord,” I prayed. “Don’t let this be the one who approaches ME!”

Thankfully, he moved on.

About a month ago, my oldest showed me a pic of a guy on Facebook that she’d met and was thinking about “hanging out” with. They don’t date these days, they hang out. Anyway, he had done one of those bathroom pics of himself without his shirt. NICE eight-pack. Very muscular. She was grinning from ear to ear. I nodded and said, “Yep, he’s cute. What does he do for a living. Does he go to school? What does he drive?” All of which got me a frown and a “none of your business” response.

Sooo…she’s been seeing this dude. Friday afternoon, he drives up and she runs out the door—followed by MOI! Yep, it was time for me to meet him. Ohhhh, she said some things under her breath and out of the side of her mouth to me. LMAO…no way was he getting away from me. And he saw me coming. Hopped out of his big ol’ green pick up (nice truck) and he was short. At least three to four inches shorter than her. Okay, nothing wrong with men under six feet tall. Okay. So nobody get all worked up over this. But I have this thing. I want the man to be taller than the woman. I know, I know. It’s outdated, silly, just so wrong. But hey—that’s me.

But even bigger than the problem I was having with him being shorter than her was his lack of MEAT. The boy was a stick. He’d blow away in a March wind for sure. There was nothing there to hold on to. Well, maybe I can fatten him up—stretch him out. Probably no need, though. She goes through relationships like most people eat M & Ms—by the handful. The one I want for her—and she doesn’t want—has a killer body, good lookin’ as sin, great job, great future ahead of him—has a kick ass tattoo on his back. Good personality. And adores her. And? She wants NOTHING to do with him. sighhhhh

But enough about me and my taste in men. Ya’ll got any funny stories about the Alpha who bit the dust? I’d love to hear them. Leave me comments. We’ll pass those war stories back and forth.

On another note, I’ve decided to start showcasing an author video each week. If you caught my debut blog post over at The Romance Studio, you know how fascinated I am by them. Here’s the link in case you missed that post: http://trsblue.blogspot.com/2011/03/move-over-steven-spielberg.html
The post features three book trailers that I absolutely love. Check them out!

Today’s video is by Lex Valentine of Winterheart Design. It was created for author, Debbie Gould for her book, November Rain. I’ve always loved the title of that book. And the cover is gorgeous—made by the amazing Emmy Ellis, aka Natalie Dae. Once you see this book trailer, I know you’ll want to buy the book.

Now for the video…

Personal Taboos

We all have them. Some things are simply a turn off for us. Yellow cars bug me. I have a major aversion to Japanese food but love Chinese food. I hate wearing coats and no matter how cold it gets will only wear a light jacket like a windbreaker. And please do not stick your finger in my face.

But those aren’t the kind of taboos I’m talking about. I’m talking about things that really make you go ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. That TV show 1000 Ways to Die makes me go ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. There is something in every episode of The Family Guy (no, I don’t watch it but I hear enough of it to know) that makes me go ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

But I’m not talking about TV.

I’m talking about sex. Particularly sex in erotic romance books. What’s the “ick factor” for you? Where does it cross the line? Is it in the pairings—as in can there be too many? Is there something you’ve seen portrayed in an erotic romance that simply is UNromantic and UNbelievable?

I think this subject should produce some lively banter between commenters. Unfortunately, I’m NOT here. LOL No, folks, I’m off the grid for a while. Computer is sleeping. So my post showed up this morning automatically—well, let’s hope so. Lol I’m afraid I’m not going to be online for a while due to a family emergency. But! I’ll see you again soon.

Hope everyone is happily reading and writing. Hugs to all.

Bite Me!

No, not you. That’s what I want to say to all those blogs and therapists out there who have all this wonderful advice for those who spend Valentine’s Day alone. So yeah, BITE ME! And just so you know exactly what I’m talking about, check out what they think will make everyone feel better.

1.    Take a nice hot bubble bath with scented oils and candles. Uhhh…okay, great advice for someone feeling lonely on VD, isn’t it? They’ve just been given permission to drown themselves. Oh and if the drowning doesn’t get them, maybe the candles will tip over and catch the shower curtain on fire. And there is always perching an electric appliance on the side of the tub, too.
2.     Watch an action movie or another type that will keep your mind off of romance. Sighhh…just what you wanted for VD. A nice two hour flick of blood splattering all over the place. Lots of shooting, revving up a person to off somebody—maybe an ex. Uhh…where’s my gun?
3.     If you know someone who is alone on this day and having a hard time with it, send them flowers or chocolates anonymously.  Oh that’s helpful. Make someone think they have a secret admirer why don’t ya? Then they can drive themselves straight into a rubber room trying to figure out who it is.
4.     Pull out that credit card! Buy yourself something special. Now that’s just special. Go into debt over this day so you can worry next month about how to pay the bill.
5.     Send yourself flowers. Uhhh…more money spent. And unless you are delusional, I think you might know that they came from YOU.
6.     Go to a sporting event where the focus is on the game and not hearts and flowers. Oh yeah, right. Don’t ya know that in that great big ol’ flat screen they will inevitably have, someone is going to be proposing to someone? And if there isn’t a flat screen, I can guarantee you that at halftime, some guy is going to walk some gal onto the playing field/court to get down on bended knee.
7.     Visit a local nursing home. Bring flowers and brighten a senior citizen’s day. Well, you know you’re past the point of no return and have hit rock damn bottom when you spend your VD taking flowers to the old folk’s home.

Honestly, I don’t know who comes up with these ideas but they are just plain crazy. For those who take Valentine’s Day seriously, those who might be feeling lost and alone, none of those suggestions make sense. Every single item listed is just a reminder of the fact you are without a significant other.

You’re thinking: “Okay Ms. Know-It-All, what SHOULD someone do, then?”

Glad you asked. LOL There are different ways to get through this day. Notice I didn’t say celebrate this day. What’s to celebrate?

One: If you’re still into a little lovin’ on the run, get all dressed up and go down to the local watering hole for some no-strings-attached good times. Don’t forget the latex.

Two: If you’re a bit more conservative and the bar scene doesn’t appeal to you, have some friends over who are just as unattached as you. You can compare notes on all your ex boyfriends and husbands and have a rip-roarin’ good time. Don’t forget the tequila.

Three: If you’re not into no-strings-attached good times and not into partying with friends, WORK. Yep, just work. Nothing like it for helping you focus and get rid of all the bad mojo. Stay away from love songs, chocolate, and the opposite sex as much as possible.

Four: Rent these movies: Love Story, Message In A Bottle, A Walk To Remember, Titanic, and The Notebook. Buy a box of Kleenex and a bottle of your fave wine. Put on your old pjs and fuzzy slippers. Sit down on the floor with your fave stuffed doll, pillows and blankets all around you, and let those cleansing tears fix everything. Oh, don’t forget to get up half an hour earlier in the morning to put cucumber slices on your eyes and make sure you have pain reliever handy for the hangover. You might need some Preparation H, too—for the eyes, silly.

AND?

Last but most certainly not least: Get out that e-reader and purchase a copy of Twelve Days of Love. It’s a feel-good romance that will tug at your heartstrings but in a very good way. Guaranteed to take your mind off the ex who left you for the bimbo down the street.

Blurb:

Nothing suits former jock and debate-team star Nick more than sparring with the one-time nerd. He’s just itching to get up close and personal with her high-velocity curves and tangle with her on the nearest horizontal surface.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, all bets are off when Cupid draws back his bow and Nick has only twelve days to convince Eden she belongs with him, in his heart and in his bed.

All The Love In My Junk Folder

To celebrate the upcoming release of Twelve Days of Love from Ellora’s Cave http://www.jasminejade.com/ps-9071-50-twelve-days-of-love.aspx  I’m on a blog tour. The UNValentine’s Day Blog Tour, that is. Why UNValentine’s Day? Because I think the hype that surrounds that day is just too much and leaves us with high expectations that usually fall way short. Of course, that’s not true with Twelve Days of Love. Valentine’s Day is everything my heroine Eden ever dreamed of. But shouldn’t we be celebrating love all year long—not just one day? If you’re a reader of romances, that’s something you already wish for—a year round love fest. Some of you are even lucky enough to have that. But some of us…

Well, we soldier on. LOL

One of the things I’m doing for my blog tour is sharing VD disaster stories that were sent to me, and I did just that over at Melissa’s Imaginarium the other day. Check it out: http://melissasimaginarium.blogspot.com/2011/02/valentines-day-and-author-tess-mackall.html

Today I want to talk about love in some unusual places—my junk folder, for instance. Yeah, even in the spam cage you can find love if you just look. LOL I had been expecting an email from someone and it was way overdue. So I had this light bulb moment and checked my spam. Yep, it was there. And while there I perused the other emails that had been captured as well. Amongst all the Irish Sweepstakes lottery wins, all the male enhancing drugs, and everybody and his brother trying to sell me something, I found some real pearls. Pearls for this blog anyway. lol

Take a look at your spam. I bet you’ll find them too. The sender will have names like this: Abdul, Hakeem, Saami, Hassan, Ibriham, Kofu, Ahmed, Mohamed, and even a Daniel. Now I’ve got nothing against anyone looking for love, but could someone tell me why the overwhelming majority of these names sound Middle Eastern? With the world political climate the way it is right now, one would have to wonder why I’m getting invitations of love from mostly Middle Eastern men. Are they trying to get my money (can’t get blood out of a turnip so that doesn’t really scare me, lol) when they have all that oil? Or are they trying to lure me into some terrorist cell using love to brainwash me? LOL

Now before anyone throws rocks, this is all in good fun. They’re working some kind of scam for sure. We all know that. And just because they have Middle Eastern sounding names doesn’t mean they are terrorists, of course, and it doesn’t mean they are swimming in oil either. I’m just joking about all of that. They are very very probably just your plain, ordinary, run of the mill, asshole. And I think they’re organized too. lol

Why do I think they are organized? Because they almost all start out with this same line:
“I see your picture on your msn profile. I am most interested in getting to know you. I will send you picture.”

First off, the only picture on my MSN account is of a goldfish. Yeah, a damn goldfish. He loves that? Okay. To each his own. Never heard of a goldfish fetish, though. HA! But that’s the nature of spam, isn’t it? It’s an email to the world—cover all bases, hit everyone hoping to reel in a big fish---OKAY! Now I know why they are so attracted to my goldfish pic. LOL

There is also a pattern to these emails too. Within a few minutes of receiving this email, you also get one from Mohammad asking for your help. He’s got loads of cash stashed away, and he can’t get it out of the country without your help. HA! Don’t ya just love it?

Well, not everyone is as skeptical as you and me. Not everyone is savvy enough to know what these people are all about. They also lurk on dating sites. Mostly the free ones. I know someone who fell for one of these dudes. Now she was lucky enough to figure it all out before she actually gave up any money, but the “relationship” went on for a couple of months and she was pretty taken with this guy.

And it was the week before Valentine’s Day when all this came crashing down on her too.

You see, she’d kept it all a secret. Believing and not quite believing at the same time. Telling someone would have stopped it long before, and I don’t think my friend really wanted to be stopped. She was hoping against hope that it was real. She shared some of their emails and IM conversations with me and quite frankly? He talked a good game.

And it’s not just these scam artists out to break your heart either. Have you ever talked to someone who got involved in an online “affair” because of interaction on Facebook or MySpace? I heard from a MySpace friend I hadn’t chatted with in quite a while. She sent me a message telling me all about how her heart was breaking. As it turned out, she’d flown half way across the country to finally meet the man she’d been talking to online for an entire year—one of the reasons she didn’t talk to me or anyone else all that time—and yep, he was there to greet her all right.

But…she didn’t recognize him. Turns out he’d sent her his cousin’s picture. The real dude—the one who had written her poetry, sent her flowers, talked to her on the phone for hours?—he was a mere shell of the physical picture she had kept in her head all that time. The lie broke her heart AND her spirit. And you know what? She feels guilty that she can’t care for him now just because he doesn’t look like his picture. I explained to her that she had been lied to and she should focus on that. But she thinks of herself now as being shallow because the man is NOT six-two and built like a brick outhouse. Sooner or later I think she’ll figure it all out, though. I hope. But it just happened a few days ago. She was to stay with him for two weeks—through Valentine’s Day before she returned. She stayed exactly forty-eight hours—in a hotel—crying—before she came home.

When you’re searching for love it just seems like the playing field is littered with mines just waiting to blow up in your face. We’ve all had our heart broken at one time or another. It happens. You can’t make someone love you. And sometimes you can develop feelings for someone they don’t return. All of that is understandable. But when someone lies to you, treats you badly just because they can? Well, that’s a whole different kind of heartbreak, isn’t it. The former you can get over eventually and chalk it up to experience. The latter isn’t so easy to get over. Your ability to trust just isn’t the same, making it harder to get back up on that horse and try again. But most people do try again. There is always that little flame burning inside of us that can’t quite let the chance at love go by. That’s where all that frog-kissing comes into play I guess. And boy some of us have kissed a helluva lot of them for sure. Lol

This Valentine’s Day you’ve got a little help with the whole love thing. On February 11th—this coming Friday—Twelve Days of Love releases. You can read it in bed with your honey. Trust me. It’ll jumpstart your heart and a few other things as well. Lol And in addition to Twelve Days of Love, my fellow author and friend Darah Lace has a release that very same day—Bucking Hard. So you now have two books to read that are guaranteed to get your lovin’ on!
