General Weirdness

Personally, I don't think I want to know anyone who doesn't have a little quirk or two. After all those are the things that make us 'different' and yeah, maybe a little weird...but in a totally good way. These little eccentricities stamp us as unique individuals, don't they? I certainly have a quirk or ten and my family knows them well.

I have a funny thing about my dishwasher. When my kids were little, their job was to clear off the table and do dishes. I didn't have a problem with anything they did until it came to loading the dishwasher. I ALWAYS rearranged things after they'd left the kitchen. Don't know what it is but I like certain things in certain places in the dishwasher and it drives me nuts if they aren't loaded JUST RIGHT.

I also have a thing about shoes. They need to be lined up in a certain way in my closet and in the right order. By that I mean the left shoe should never be on the right side. Make sense? It makes perfect sense to me. Everyone in my family shakes their head at me when they grocery shop with me. I buy two of almost everything. I never buy only one box of cereal. I always buy two. Two tomatoes. Two cucumbers. Two heads of lettuce. Two cans of green beans. The only exception is with meats, milk, and other things that already come in very large sizes anyway. Need some potato chips? That's fine. I have two bags.

Do you have quirks that drive your friends and family crazy? Come on and share them.

Aw, you made me think of another one I have. My pillowcases have to have the opening near the edge of the bed. Mr. Regina has a thing about wanting them facing in and we are constantly battling to re-arrange the pillows!!!!

I can't do sleeves in sleepwear either. Drives me bananas. I can't stand socks either.

Okay, thought of another. I don't like when someone wants to taste something off my plate. It's a big quirk for me. Even family. Get your own plate! LOL Maybe it comes from having a big family, I don't know. Odd, huh?

Also, the sleeping thing. My daughter and I are the oppisite. I go to bed in an old worn tank or something. Anything that's comfortable and lets me move. She sleeps in one of her dad's big t-shirts, pj bottoms and socks, under a heavy down comforter. It always seems she's going to roast! LOL

Congrats, Amber!

Quirks? Oh hell, yeah! Lip balm (Avon vanilla and Burt's Bees Pomegranate) is probably my number one quirk. I have a tube in the bathroom, on the nightstand by my bed, on the table next to the couch where I write, in the cup holder of my car, in my desk drawer, by my sewing machine and at least two in my purse. And (with the possible exception of the one by the sewing machine) I use all of them every day. I even wake up in the middle of the night to put more on.

Let's see...I also have to fold towels a certain way, eat my m&ms in order of color (blue, green, yellow, orange, red, brown) and I don't it if I have an odd number.

It's okay, you can say it. I've passed the border of quirky and have run headlong into freaky.

I keep hand lotion all over the house--use it all day. One benefit is that lots of people say I have the softest hands around. Another quirk is that I tend to count things. Example: when I dine out with a group, as soon as the waiter sets down drinks, I automatically count the glasses. A psychologist friend says many people do that--and that such people keep the world running in an orderly fashion. So how come my house is so disorderly? :)

I have some more. Bron, I'm with you on the m&m's (although I can't have them now that I'm dieting...huge bummer). I separate them by colors in little piles and move from one color to the next. I do the brown and black first to get them out of the way because I like the bright ones best. snicker. Soooo freakin strange.

Anne...I'm with YOU on the food thing except it's MILK. I can't stand drinking milk after someone else. Every time I have cereal and one of the kids takes a bite, I can't finish it. I always say...here. go ahead and take it.

Teri, you count glasses? That's so funny!!! I'm the same with the hand lotion. Keep some in about every room in the house.

Folding towels. Okay. I do that too. They always have to hang a certain way on the towel racks. Bugs me to death when a damp towel is just shoved in there and not straightened and folded in half.

How about balancing things? It bugs the you know what out of me if someone sets an item on the corner of a table and there's nothing on the opposite corner of the table. I feel tilted until I remove the item or place something on the other corner. So is that a quirk or OCD?

Oh my, this just made me chuckle. I do have quirks but can't think of all of them. The dishwasher has to be a certain way and I refuse to let anyone else load it. The M&M's sorted by color and then I eat the ones that are the fewest count first. Bookcases are alphabetized by author, then book but if it's a series then it's grouped together. Everything had a place and needed to be there. Very OCD. I used to be worse than I am now though before I got married. Now I can't keep up with him and his messes. LOL

Don't use one of my pens. If you do, it becomes yours. There's a reason for that. You will hold the pen at a different tilt and break the seal on the little ball. Then it will begin to leak. Cannot write with a leaky pen. So it's yours.

I fold my towels a certain way so the fold faces out when they're in the linen closet. Um, same way for sheets.

My desk looks like a disaster but I know exactly where everything is. My boss once "cleaned" for me when I was in the hospital. We didn't find things for months. A couple files we never found and had to duplicate. She never touched my desk again...nor did any boss that came after her.

Here's another one. When I go to a restaurant and the waitress sets down my plate, I ALWAYS have to rotate it.

Regina Carlysle said...

Oh yes, Anny on the towl folding. I don't want any edges showing, just a nice fluffy roll thingy

Regina Carlysle said...

can't tolerate make up left out all over a bathroom counter. Lids must be screwed on and everything put away in a bag or a basket. My daughter learned that about me really fast.

Well after reading everyone comments i dont feel so bad. My bed has to be made every day and the last person out of the bed has to make it. When we go grocery shopping, everything is put in certain places, my boys try to help but it all ends up where it should not be, hence i much redo it. The pillows on my couch must be set a certain way, or i reoragne them, my daughter finds it too funny to move them and see if i will fix them, I do all the time.

Regina Carlysle said...

I hear you on the pillows. I used to do that with pillows on a couch in the family room when the kids were little. They'd get them out of whack and I'd have to run back in and fix them. Finally, I got pissed off and through the damn pillows away. siiiigh. Hopeless.

So many quirks. Wonderful! They make the world go round you know.
Some of mine... hn, well I also tend to sort M&Ms. I always save the green for last (they're my favorites), and I don't eat the blue ones. Food should not be that shade of blue. I give those to my mom or sister.
I need to have animals near me to sleep, whether it's my frog singing by my beside, The geckos or iguana across the room, a kitty or three under the covers, or the opossum under the bed.
The one that drives people nuts though, is that I hate symmetry. When things are even it bothers me, whether it's on the walls, around the house, garden, even putting on make-up. I'm more comfortable when things are a little off. ^_^

Okay, if you MUST know, I will not go to sleep at night if my closet door is open even a crack. A sliver. Everyone knows the monsters can't get out if the door is firmly SHUT. Stephen King novels as an adolescent had a permanent effect on me. LOL.
