Joined at the Hip

Read a story last night about Ray and Honey Smith of California and the unique way in which they show their devotion after 46 years of marriage. Now don't get me wrong, it's kind of sweet in a weird and twisted way and after being married that long, they can do any damn thing they please but I have to say this is ummmm strange. They were high school sweethearts years ago and when they both retired in 2003 they began to dress alike. One day Honey went into a store and bought her husband a shirt and decided to get herself one too. Now they dress alike in every way, every DAY. Same pants/shorts, same shirt, same exact belt, hats, fanny packs (for their trips to Disneyland), and matching his and hers Crocs. Hmmm. Apparently they do this to show everyone how much they love each other and they like to draw attention to the fact by appearing as the Doublemint Twins. Apparently, their closets are arranged by 'outfits' with her smaller shirts hanging right in front of his bigger ones. Now I've been married for 26 years but I've never been a 'shock the shit out of everyone' kind of gal. Besides, I'd look awfully funny in my husband's business suits and wingtips and I very much doubt my other half would enjoy my penchant for jammies and bare feet. A long term marriage is all fine and good...great, fact...but I draw the line at doing the twin thing.

Yeah...not really my thing. LOL. To each their own though.

LOL! I so hear you! We're not the dress alike kind either. Never have been. I think we're very much in love, but we don't have to prove it to the world either.

Besides, I'd look really strange shirtless, as that's how my hubby's dressed unless he's at work! LOL

Nope. I'd look pretty damn funny in my husband's suits and wingtips. He DOES have some cool ties but just not my thing.

Did you get a load of that CLOSET??? They even wear the same watches. There was a pic of that but I didn't post it.

Oh my! This had me cracking up! Uh, no....I would not look pretty in Michael's hard hat and tool belt..lol! And yeah, he'd like kinda funny in my 24 hour jammies and fuzzy slippers!

Thanks for the laugh, Reg!

Wear my hubby's stuff! No way, Jose as my little grandadughter says. I like my delicate (humm) shirts. Even our t-shirts are different. Although sometimes he asks me before we go out if he should wear casual or dressy, suit or short sleeves,...

I've seen people like these out and about, but I never dreamed that they did it *all the time!*

Way back when (like perhaps the late 1700's,) there used to be what was called "Companion Wear." The couple would have evening or party costumes, but the woman's dress and the guy's suit would be made from the same fabric - not the exact same outfit.

Cute stuff back in those days or for a reenactment, but yeah, not for me in this century.

Well, it's just a tad bizarre, to say the least. Apparently they did this once when they were in high school and she remembered it. Now they are like this everywhere they go, every DAY.

Snort...Alisha, I can just see you in a tool belt and hard hat.

Oh. My. God. It's great that they've been married so long, but that's odd. I wear dresses and skirts too much so unless the man has a secret I don't know about, i can't imagine that ever happening ;)

Wow, good for them, but that is NEVER happening here. :) Not too long after we got married, my in-laws gifted us with matching "leisure" outfits--sort of sweatshirt/sweat pants kind of things? We gave them away. ;)

Regina, I read this story to my Mama last night. She was cracking up. This coming February my parents will celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary. Mama's comment, after laughing, was "bless their hearts, they need a hobby". lol I've seen my parents wear the same t-shirt but I don't think it has ever been on purpose though. I'm like Anne, I don't think you have to dress alike to prove your love to anyone.

Ah, nope. 'Nuff said.

I've been known to swipe my ex's t-shirts here and there but dressing alike? Nope, not my cup of tea either.

Like Kelley said, to each their own. There are worse things in life they could think of to do besides dress alike. If it brings them happiness and does not harm others, so be it.
