Guilty Pleasures

So? What's your guilty pleasure? I know a lot of readers like to purchase their erotica on-line so that no one local knows what they are reading. Not a thing wrong with that. Privacy is a good, good thing. At least I've always thought so! But aren't we just really lucky that no one knows what we get into at home?

What about in your choice for television shows? Now, as the mom of a teen-aged daughter I've always been certain to emphasize to her that beauty, the very best kind, is found within. It's okay to be trendy, fashionable, etc. but it shouldn't take over your life to the point you judge others by what they may or may not have. What they wear. How they look. You don't make friends on the basis of someone's outward appearance or social standing. Fortunately, they have been lessons well learned by both my son and daughter. Their friends are 'good people', deep, loving, and intelligent. So yay for that!

Still every Sunday afternoon my daughter and I have an all day date that involves...MODELS. YIKES. Yes, we are completely hooked on America's Next Top Model. They fight, they fuss, they agonize about their hair and outdoing each other. It's crazy that someone as completely non-shallow as me can actually enjoy this stuff. Truth be told, I tend to think it's kind of funny and fortunately, my daughter does too.

My other guilty pleasure (which I also share with my daughter) is a love of the paranormal shows. Ghost Hunters (sci-fi channel), Ghost Adventures (The Travel Channel) and Paranormal State (A&E Network) are three of our faves. I looove quiet, serious Ryan from Paranormal States! He's such a sweet guy! And you've just gotta love the plumbers who hunt ghosts on their days off.

So what are your guilty pleasures?

Do you adore Dancing With The Stars? Or do you get off on nasty Simon and American Idol? Were you ever a total and complete slave to Survivor? What's your pleasure?

Regina, I love all of the paranormal shows you do (Plus Most Haunted, the one that got me hooked on them) and I agree with your assessment of the main people in them, although Ryan worries me sometimes at the lengths he will go to help people (I worry about him!). I also love Dancing With the Stars - it reminds me of all those years I used to dance! But that's it for me and reality tv. I watched Survivor once when it was in Australia and it didn't hook me enough to watch again. Same with American Idol. Watched it the year Carrie Underwood won and haven't been able to watch it since. I'd rather watch Lost on Wednesday nights.

Haven't had a guilty pleasure since MacGyver. ;-( Now I guess I should come up with a new one.

My guilty pleasures includes a massage and an all day marathon of watching the old Sci-Fi series, "Firefly" which I have on disc. You just never know when you're going to need a guilty pleasure day--they rejuvenate you! And Nathan Fillion is "inspiring":-) He's also in the new series, "Castle". I think I'm talking myself into taking a "guilty pleasure day"!

I watch Ice Road Truckers, big crass men who brave the 6 weeks of taking Big Rigs across miles and miles of frozen artic lakes to the diamond mines. I also like Dog The Bounty Hunter, and I've recently just got into NCIS.

But that's it for TV shows and me. I really don't watch a whole lot.

I will watch Most Haunted and other ghost shows when I catch them.

Oh men I have so many but I would have to agree with you on Ghost Hunters. I loooove the show! I even have a tshirt with the TAPS logo lol I know how nerd of me. But I can't miss it on Wednesday nights LOL!

This is going to sound so strange, but I like to watch the ID channel (Investigation Discovery). Shows like Most Evil, New Detectives, 48 Hours: Hard Evidence...Shows about killers and crimes and why people do the things they do. I'm strange, I know. LOL

I don't watch a lot of TV. When I do its shows like Anne mentioned. I love crime shows. I did go through a couple weeks last season I was addicted to that show Mama's Boys. I was pretty embarassed about it. LOL.

Okay, maybe I took my TAPS guilty pleasure a little too far. I even lied to my husband and told him I was attending a "conference" (as we Publishers often do-a lot) and signed up for a ghost hunt with the TAPS team. Yep. There it is. I hunted ghosts with TAPS and my husband thinks I was at a Paranormal Book conference. I'm a bad, bad girl. And I DON'T CARE!!!!! LOL

I can't even recall the name of my last favorite mindless treat. All I know is that they started with a dozen good looking people and were looking for the "Most Beautiful Person in America". The prize was a place on People Magazines Most Beautiful People List. What the competitors didn't know was that not only did external beauty count, but they had to be beautiful and nice inside as well. They were secretly watched every minute by the judges as they were put through not only the standard beauty tests(photo shoots, product endorsement, etc.) but some pretty unusual people interactions as well. They had to work with a group of challenged teens on a sporting event. They had to not peek at a competitors profile when left alone in the room with it. They had to help a dirty, smelly, homeless man whose shopping cart fell over. Several fell by the wayside for badmouthing other competitors when they thought no one was looking. A few cheated and looked when they were told not to. One was so shallow the judges held out no hope for her. I came upon this wonderous time waster during the last four episodes. I can't believe that I had such a good time watching the most "beautiful" among us get cut because they didn't have any manners or morals or values.

I've now moved on to a ridiculous VH-1 item called From G's to Gents. But that is another story all together.

That's funny, Margay! I got started with the ghost stuff with Most Haunted, too. Along with A Haunting...sooo corny with the re-enactments. I think these shows have evolved though and are getting better and better.

MacGyver was so cute and what that man couldn't do with chewing gum.

I haven't watched Castle yet but I've heard it's good. That GUY is HOT.

My husband is so hooked on Ice Road Truckers, Amy. Lately he's getting into The Deadliest Catch and Ax Men.

Regina Carlysle said...

Dee, I'm as big a nerd as YOU, darling. I'd looove a TAPS tee shirt. That's the coolest show.

My daughter is completely fascinated with the forensic shows and lately I've been hooked on Psychic Detectives. Very very interesting.

Regina Carlysle said...

HA. That's a good one, RP!!!! Sounds like something I would do. LOL. Now I'm wondering if you FOUND any ghosts! That would be the coolest thing.

Regina Carlysle said...

That one sounds interesting, Hannah! I always find it fascinating that these people seem to have no idea they are being filmed every single moment. One America's Next Top Model some of those girls act like complete bitches as if the judges aren't listening in.

I just love the paranormal shows too, Regina. I happen to live in the same town as the plumbers from Ghost Hunters. :) My other guilty pleasure? Duff from Ace of Cakes on the Food Network Channel. He's got such a great sense of humor and creates awesome cakes.

Great topic! I am addicted to espresso shots from my Nespresso machine. At least it saves me trips to Starbucks and the money for their shots - plus these are way better. I am missing Battlestar Galactica already. Other than that, I don't watch much TV. I'm not generally guilt ridden - suffered too much from that when I was younger, so I pretty much give myself permission to do whatever, within reason. Maybe preferring chocolate chip cookie dough to the cookies....

I'm not much of a TV watcher. I do like Dexter and Californication on showtime and am an avid fan of NCIS and Bones, but my guilty pleasure is.... drum roll please....

Celeberity Rehab and Celeberity Sober Living with Dr. Drew!

Regina Carlysle said...

OHHHHH, Jeni I have to laugh. Dr. Drew's show is HARD CORE.

Like you, I'm not much of a tv watcher otherwise I'd never get any writing done. I'm just finding this entire blog post so enlightening!

Right now I'm having huge TrueBlood withdrawals. Season one comes out on dvd on May 19 and I'm psyched to buy it and watch the whole thing before season two starts in June.

Another "Ghost Hunters" fan here. I also never miss "Most Haunted". Loved to watch Derek Acorah because he chewed up the screen and he was so FAKE!!! Ever read about the "Kreed Kafer" affair? LOL!

My ultimate guilty pleasure is "Nip/Tuck". I NEVER miss that show. When I turn it on, my husband always puts on his headphones and says "I'm not watching that show La La La La La La!!!" but he follows the plot lines better than I do. Ha! We are disappointed if that show doesn't jump the shark every week.

Guilty pleasures. Hmmm Just TV, would be Lost, Heroes, Survivor, House, Ghost Whisperer, (my husband hates them all, if it were up to him it would be old war movies and Hogans Heroes.
Then would come strawberries in any form.
Then spending too much on books.

Regina Carlysle said...

All I can say is I'm damn lucky to have so many televisions in my house. My husband HATES everything I love and vice versa. Can't remember the last thing we watched together.

I DO like Hogan's Heroes though.

Not sure how guilty it is, but I love Stargate SG-1. And Bones, Castle, Samantha Who?, Chuck, Priviledged. :) Good thing I don't have cable or I'd really be in trouble.
