Getting sucked into the vortex....

That is known as the Internet... I can't imagine how much I would get done if I didn't have the Internet. It's like an addiction for me. Whether its Facebook (which is where I spend incredibly too much of my time.), Myspace, Twitter, yahoo groups, or just plain browsing, it's a time thief. It really is like this deep, dark whole that I get sucked into and literally have to claw myself out from on a daily basis.

As much as it hinders, it helps though, right? Please tell me I'm not just telling myself that. LOL. I use it for research, promotion, submitting. I couldn't be without it, but I'm finding it hard to separate my time with it as well.

So, my question is, is it just me? Do you get sucked into the vortex or have you found a way to manage your time better than I do? How do you do it?

Also, in case anyone is interested, I've written my first young adult book. I have uploaded the first few chapters to Inkpop. I would love for you to check it out. The direct link to my story, Chasing Normal, is HERE. Also, if you enjoy it, you can add it to your "picks". The top five each month get read by HarperCollins editors.

Oh Hell No...you are not alone with this problem. Problem? Heck, it's an addiction. I try to limit my internet time to mornings and late at night but that doesn't always work out for me. I remember in the early days of my writing when I didn't know much about the internet. I got SOOOOO much done.

So true, but what to do about it? I'm not sure much of the intereacting on do on the net pays results, but how do you know?????

Yeah, I've tried to do the morning and night thing but I swear, Reg, it taunts me. LOL. Calling my name. ROFL.

You're right, Jean. It's hard to know but it is so important. I've had people find my books that way.

It can easily take over hours of my day, so I've implemented a policy for myself. I spend my lunchtime at my day job surfing. Then, when I get home in the evening, I focus on just writing. It works great...until the weekend!

I'm forever getting distracted by the net. Grr!

Love "Chasing Normal" so far, Kelley! Good luck with the contest! :-D

It turn it on first thing in the morning, check e-mail, etc. And then SHUT IT DOWN until my lunch check. Again, check e-mail, etc. And then SHUT IT DOWN until after the house hunk comes home. Then I take a break from writing. But anytime I want to actually write, I SHUT THE DAMN THING DOWN!!!

Hope that answers your question? ;)

You are definitely not alone. I lose huge chunks of time each day on the internet!

Enjoyed the excerpt..."He knows my name!" Ah, to be that young again. Good luck with Chasing Normal. Love the title, btw.

Rosemary, Thank you so much for checking out my YA. It was fun to step into the mind of a teenager again. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Kelley, You so aren't alone! I'm supposed to be doing my edits but I thought I'd take a break since I'm half way through and sat for 6 hours straight slapping my forehead as I fixed my mistakes. LOL. I'm addicted to blog reading, FB, and browsing stock photos. That's my Internet bad habits. (Oh... I friend requested you at FB!!! LOL!!!) I have removed my Internet USB thing (wireless router) and put it 'away' so that's how I keep myself off line when I know I should be writing instead. LOL.
